The “Living Nativity Scene” in Casole d’Elsa takes place every 2 years. More than 300 participants and animals animate much of the historic centre.
Born in 1998 after the discovery by Don Paolo Montagnani, who was the priest of the village, of some objects and costumes used in old processions before the Second World War.
After the success of first historic Processions, the organizers had the idea to create a living nativity scene.
In this way born the association “CasolEventi”, that every time undertakes to organize in a more realistic way the event of which inhabitans are proud.
The works start 3 months before with meetings and preparations to turn the historic centre. They hide doors and garage with screens, leaves and jute, to make the atmosphere perfectly consistent with the representation. Most citizens take part as characters, while others work behind the scenes.
The “Living Nativity Scene” in Casole d’Elsa won the Internation award of “PRAESEPIUM POPULI” as best nativity scene in Italy. On 6th January the Three Wise Men will arrive hiding real camels.
This year the event will take place for just 4 days: 26th and 30th December 2017 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. 1st, 6th and 7th January 2018 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
